Research Working Groups

The international research working groups set up by the FBA constitute an important part of the agency’s research-promoting activities.

The members of the research working groups form a unique network which enables close cooperation between FBA and the academic community. Today, there are altogether seven groups, composed of over 130 eminent scholars attached to world-leading international universities and research institutes. The members of the research working groups specialize in issues related to FBA’s areas of expertise.

FBA organizes annual academic seminars and conferences, where the members meet and discuss their ongoing research, methods and results before publication. These meetings also enable the establishment of contacts that are important for future joint research projects. In addition, the members of the research working groups can apply for grants from the FBA each year.

Gender Assessment of the 2021 Electoral Process in Puntland

On October 25, 2021, Puntland became the first federal member state in Somalia to hold democratic elections to district councils. “One person one vote” elections were conducted in three “early districts” of Eyl, Ufeyn and Qardho. In addition to their historic significance, these elections offer an important opportunity to learn lessons, not least when it comes to the promotion of gender equality and the political participation of women.
